Introduction
Racing Trials is a website that contains 1500+ new Time Trial challenges for 30 classic racing games. It is also part of my personal mission to bring back awesome racing games! The challenges are based on world records from speedrun.com, which conveniently also gives us videos for every world record, which can be used for reference. Sometimes there is also information about car choices and other metadata, but not always.
Method
The lap times were extrapolated from the WRs for the different medals: Gold 103%, Silver 105%, Bronze 107%.
This roughly correlates to Top 10%, Top 25%, Top 50% in publicly available lap time leaderboard data from Gran Turismo Sport.
The validity of this approach remains somewhat dubious, since speedruns typically rely on various degrees of exploits for the fastest times. This might result in even bronze times being disproportionately difficult to achieve under normal circumstances on some games. Let me know if you find any challenges where this applies!
Another problem for Black Box era Need for Speed games is that the timer does not seem to provide consistent results, which unfortunately introduces some RNG into the laps.
Tips
Progress Saving: Your medal progress is stored in localStorage in your browser on your device, but you can also import and export your progress data at the bottom of this page, to back it up or transfer it to other devices.
Table Notation: If a cell in a table contains the " character, it is meant to be a ditto mark, so a repeat of the cell directly above. I added this to avoid cluttering the table.
